High-precision 24-bit ADC (MAD2402) is newly launched to enable precise measurement

ADC overview

There are several main types of Analog-to-digital Converter (ADC), including Flash Memory, SAR, Delta-Sigma, Pipelined, and Dual-slope...etc. Of these, SAR ADCs are high speed and relatively low resolution, while Delta-Sigma ADCs (also known as ΔΣ ADCs) are low speed but high resolution. High-precision ADCs can measure small voltage (mV) variations and can be used in many applications, such as scales, sensors, and medical instruments.

In response to the needs of the above applications, Megawin Technology has launched its first high-precision ADC (MAD2402), which focuses on consumer bridge measurement applications. It features one channel with differential input, ENOB up to 20-Bit, built-in programmable amplification of up to 128 times of the PGA, and an output speed of up to 1280 sps, with a wide range of operating voltages from 2.5 V to 5.5 V. The device is packaged in SOP8/DIP8 packages.


ΔΣ ADC (MAD2402) Key features
MAD2402 is an analog IC that needs to communicate with MCU via two-wire Serial Interface (SIF). The default mode can be selected as 10 sps or 40 sps output data rate with 128 PGA gain; the output rate can be programmed from 10 sps to 1280 sps via ADC command mode and the PGA gain can be programmed as 1, 2, ...64, 128 (2 to the power of n), which greatly increases the flexibility of application, and is mainly used in applications such as electronic scales, blood pressure and glucose meters, hand-held measurement tools, sensor measurement instruments, and smart transmitters.


E-Scale Solution: 
The main controller of this solution is a 32-bit MCU (MG32F02V0322) with a 24-bit high precision ADC (MAD2402). The weight of the object is converted into an electrical signal by a pressure sensor, which is processed by the MCU and then the weight data is presented on the display. This solution provides precise and reliable weight measurement and is suitable for household weighing or commercial/industrial measurement applications.
*Other MCUs can also be used for main controller: 8-bit (e.g.: MG82F6D17) or 32-bit M0(e.g.: MG32F04).
