What Is a LIN PHY?
LIN (Local Interconnect Network) is a low-cost, single-wire serial communication protocol based on a Master/Slave architecture, with a maximum data rate of up to 20 kbps.

Compared with high-speed automotive communication interfaces such as CAN, LIN is better suited for low-speed control and sensing applications. It is widely used in industrial automation and automotive applications, including body control, power windows and seats, side mirrors, and interior lighting systems.
A LIN PHY (LIN Transceiver) serves as the bridge between the MCU and the physical LIN Bus. It converts 3.3V/5V logic signals from the MCU into the signal levels required by the LIN Bus, while integrating essential protection and reliability features for automotive and industrial environments, such as ESD protection, EMC support, and protection against abnormal bus conditions. These features help maintain stable and reliable communication even in complex and demanding industrial and automotive environments.

     Integrates a TXD Dominant Timeout protection mechanism to prevent the LIN Bus from remaining in a Dominant state when the MCU malfunctions or becomes locked up with TXD held Low for an extended period. This helps reduce the risk of a single-node failure affecting communication across the entire LIN network.
